All About Little Hill

Who are the United Methodists?        We are Little Hill:

Who are the United Methodists?

United Methodists share our faith each time we tell the story of how God entered the world through Jesus.  Like John Wesley, Methodism’s founder, we embrace Christ’s mandate to “make disciples of all nations.”

All people are welcome in the United Methodist Church.  We are firmly committed to inclusiveness.  We celebrate a diversity of people, ideas, and cultures, and are enriched by our broad history.

United Methodism was formed when the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church merged in 1968.  United Methodists trace their spiritual heritage back to spiritual leaders including Wesley, Francis Asbury, Phillip Otterbein, Martin Boehm and Jacob Albright

When you join a Methodist church, you become a member of the total United Methodist connection.  As members of Little Hill, we promise God and the congregation to uphold the church through our prayers, our presence, our gifts, and most importantly, our service.

The story of the Holy Spirit’s continuing work is the United Methodist story.  United Methodists are mission-oriented and socially conscious.  This is important to our faith.  We are aware of world events and strive to help those in need.  For generations, United Methodists have cooperated with other churches to spread the gospel, care for those in need, alleviate injustice, and foster peace.

United Methodists positively influence society through responsible social action.  For more than 200 years, the United Methodist Church has expressed concern for the worker, the sick, the poor, the orphaned, the aging, the impaired, the oppressed, and the imprisoned.

Our churches participate in the struggles of women, people with physical and mental impairments, and racial and ethnic minority persons, helping them attain equality in the church, the economy and society.

United Methodists trust free inquiry in matters of Christian doctrine.  Our faith is guided by scripture, tradition, experience and reason.

For more information about United Methodism, please go to www.UMC.org   the Web site of the People of The United Methodist Church.  Newly redesigned, the site has community features designed  to help you  stay in touch with other members of this congregation between services, meet other United Methodists who share your interests, and participate in a global dialogue on faith. You can access all these incredible resources from your own home computer 24 hours a day.

The new www.UMC.org is expanding the reach of The United Methodist Church in the 21st century. Everyone is invited to visit the Web site and discover this new way to be a part of the global United Methodist community.

We are Little Hill:

Our History

Nestled in the quiet country hills of Franklin Park, Little Hill has been standing peacefully on 5 acres of ground on Magee Road Extension since 1844!  In that day, we had a whopping 11 members in a wooden frame building.  We have been growing ever since.   As the Little Hill congregation continued to grow, more space was needed.  That need was met by constructing the Christian Education building that was dedicated in 1966.  The Christian Education building includes the pastor’s study, The Robert U Jones Memorial Library, Sunday school rooms, a large social room, and a well-equipped kitchen.  This space gave us ample room for all of the social activities and meetings that we organize.
